(43-98) Election Day

I am so glad that today was election day; because maybe just maybe the candidates will take a short break from the mud slinging; and get back to the important business of trying to clean up our states and our country.  I'm so tired of all the finger pointing and the bad mouthing that both parties have been doing; and I would have loved to see a candidate who chose to run on their own merit rather than defame their opponent.

I didn't want to vote for the lesser of two evils; I wanted to vote for someone who shared my beliefs and stood for causes that were important to me.  I found it insulting when one candidate ran a commercial stating "Barack Obama is the worst President in history etc. etc."  This blog is not going to be a post in defense of President Obama; but, I do feel compelled to say, REALLY?  President Obama is the WORST President in U.S history?  What about the President that he's cleaning up after?  Obama didn't create the situation that the U.S is currently in; and whether you like the President or not; I don't think that you can blame him for where we're at right now; but I digress.  My point was meant to be, why run a campaign that is anti-Obama?  Why not tell your constituency what you plan to do if elected; or how you think that things should be different?   I honestly hadn't seen one Republican candidate who told us what they wanted to do OTHER than focus on impeaching President Obama.  Really?  That's why I should vote for you; so that you can spend your time and our money impeaching the President?   The time and money that it would cost to impeach the President is time and money that could be spent on trying to make improvements where you feel there are deficits.

I am very disappointed in how these campaigns were run.  Heck, even when Nicky ran for student council his speech included goals that he wanted to achieve and concerns that he wanted to address.  We are still teaching our children how to campaign at school and yet our politicians don't meet the same expectations.  People need to stand up and let the politicians know that we don't accept platforms of he did this and she did that; so vote for me.  I don't want to know what newspaper or candidate in your party endorses you; I have a brain and I can decide for myself  IF you present me with your goals and concerns.

Honestly, It doesn't matter what party you belong to; because they are all guilty of doing this in one way or another; but I think they need to STOP!   Present your facts about you and only you.  I want to cast my vote for someone that I think will effect the kind of changes that I want to see and not for the person who made me doubt their opponent more.

Debate?

This morning, Jackie and I were emailing each other about the debate. I was almost done with my email when I realized "I just wrote my next blog." I even mentioned that to Jackie as I signed off, and when she replied she said "funny after reading about 2 lines, I thought this should be your blog." So here it is. I feel compelled to share my impressions of Thursday's debate. We only have a month to go till election day and then my political blogs should disappear for the most part; so please just indulge me. You know I'm Queen of_____________ Right, THE GREATER GOOD; so I HAVE to write about this...

In my honest opinion, Sarah Palin did well for HER in as much as she didn’t screw up. So if that that was all that SHE had to do to be viewed as doing well - her bar was set REALLY low. And of course that begs the question: Is our only expectation of a VP, that they DON'T SCREW UP? LOL That CERTAINLY was NOT the only expectation for Joe Biden last night and aren't both candidates supposed to be held to the same standards?
Although all politicians have their own agenda none have ever made this is clear as does Sarah Palin. She didn’t answer most of the questions as they were asked and when Joe Biden tried to point that out, she VERY arrogantly made a point of saying that she "might not answer his questions or the moderators questions;" she just wants to speak to the American people and let them know who she really is and what she's about. OK, well she had the chance to do that before; it was called the Republican convention. Last night it was called a DEBATE. I mean isn’t that the point of a debate; to answer questions? Otherwise if you're just talking about what you want to talk about, it's called a speech and this was not supposed to be a speech! She was supposed to answer the questions. One of the questions that she avoided answering was about the Achilles heel. She averted the question and again talked about what she wanted to talk about. Biden; however, made SURE to answer the question and I thought he did so very well.

Here’s her game as I see it. She wants Ma & Pa America to think that she relates to them, she’s one of them, she get down and dirty with them; oh she’s gonna help them, she’s gonna fight for them, and all her stories about soccer moms, and her down home speak is supposed to make you relate to her; BUT the truth of the matter is, that once she’s in office, she’s not going to be talking to us. Excuse me, but how often does the VP give a speech to the people or have any thing to do with THE PEOPLE? She’s going to be talking to Washington; and people in Washington DON’T talk like that. Nor do the world leaders that she’ll have to meet with to discuss foreign policy. All, she did was memorize some facts and numbers, but they were the same #’s and false facts that McCain tried to use in his debate and Obama disputed them when he tried to use them, and proclaimed them to be false.

Sarah Palin does not have relevant experience for THIS job and Joe Biden does. How can she oversee the Senate when she has never even been to the Senate? Biden on the other hand has been IN THE SENATE for 25 years. She is also looking for more power in the Senate (just like Cheney) and that is EXACTLY what SHE said. "Just like Cheney." Anyone who likens themselves to Cheney – well, there’s another red flag right there. Biden explained that the only job the VP has in the Seante is to breaka tie vote if their is one. But Sarah Palin sees the Senate as a way for her to have MORE influence. She will not just be a tie breaking vote if she has he way; she'll be in control.

Gov. Palin is a narrow minded, puppet. She rehearsed the lines they fed her at Camp McCain in Sedona, and then when she got to the Debate (NOT speech) she was unable to answer any questions that she hadn't rehearsed; which is exactly why she can't get through an interview without showing the world what a moron she is. Is this what we want, a Vice President who can't think on her feet? Let's face it, she may be the Greatest Mayor that meth filled Wasilla has ever seen; heck, she may even be a good Governor if you don't mind a self-righteous, right to lifer who blames sexual abuse victims for their attacks and forces her knocked up 17 year old daughter to marry the self proclaimed Red Neck, Hockey player who got her that way AFTER he listed on his MySpace page that he DIDN'T WANT CHILDREN. (Guess he didn't until the Republican party told him that he did...)

Bottom line - Sarah Palin is a DANGEROUS woman; because ignorance and intolerance are DANGEROUS.
I urge you to vote Obama / Biden on November 4th and do all that you can do to encourage others; just like I am trying to encourage you. Our future depends on it.

You HAVE to Know...

OK, so just as "The Bumpy Ride" is NOT becoming a scrapbooking only blog; it's also NOT becoming an Obama rally; however, I do feel duty bound to inform you when I hear things that are so INCREDIBLY scary and WRONG, since; aha, say it with me "I'm all about the greater good."

Tonight I HAVE to write about Sen McCain and Gov Palin - each laughable in their own right; but both should be ASHAMED of themselves. Let's start with the Maverick himself. Today Sen McCain was being interviewed by a Spanish media station (In order to appeal to Latino voters.) The interview was conducted in English and the Senator was asked if he was President, would he be willing to meet with the Prime Minister of Spain. (He was asked this because Prime Minister Zapatero had pulled his troops out of Iraq.) McCain responded that he thought he would be willing to meet with any Latin American country, that was a part of NATO. Hmm, Call Jeff Foxworthy, because I've got a new show for him, it's not smarter that a 5th grader; it's smarter than a 4th grader - which I guess McCain is not; because when we asked Nicky, even he knew that Spain is in EUROPE, NOT Latin America. The interviewer politely informed McCain that Spain is a Latin country but it's not in Latin America, and he just started talking about meeting with Pres. Calderone of Mexico. OK, well, I guess to McCain all Latin speaking countries are one in the same; ALL Mexico! Umm, excuse me Mr. Foreign Policy expert, but there's a continent called Europe, and THAT happens to be where Spain is Maverick. Foreign Policy - Umm, maybe not.

Now as pathetic as that was; what I've heard about the illustrious Governor is far, far worse. According to Rachel Maddow (MSNBC) - When Sarah Palin was the Mayor of Wasilla, she charged sexual assault victims for the swab kits and forensic exams needed to gather evidence for prosecuting their assaulters. It was reported that Wasilla was the ONLY city in Alaska to do this; and by doing so she was essentially charging rape victims to investigate their own rapes. Additionally, Sarah Palin claims that she did not fire Walt Monegan because he wouldn't fire her brother-in-law; SHE claims that she fired him because he was seeking federal money to investigate the worst cases of sexual abuse in the state; including sex crimes against children.

OK, do we REALLY need to hear any more? These two are LIARS. They lie just for the hell of it; like Palin telling the people of Ohio that during her speech at the Republican convention her teleprompter broke, and she just had to speak from her heart, and she looked out and the people who were sitting right in front of her were the people of Ohio, so she just "spoke to Ohio;" MM, , nice story, BUT that didn't happen. The press that were there could SEE her teleprompter, from where they were sitting and they have confirmed that, um, yah, NEVER happened. She read off the teleprompter the entire time; and was Ohio sitting in front of her - NOPE. They have also lied about the size of the crowds that are attending their rallies. Yup, McCain said he had 23,000 people at a rally the other day as told to him by the Fire Marshall; but the Fire Marshall reported that he never spoke to McCain and IN FACT, the crowd was about 8,000. C'mon guys; you do the math - 8,000; 23,000 Not quite the same thing. He reported 10,000 at a Palin rally the other day and the venue only accommodates 3,500. OK, so MAYBE size DOES matter. And speaking of liars; the first Dude, (as he calls himself)Todd Palin had gone on and on at the Republican convention about how his wife had done no wrong (in Troopergate) and he'd be happy to tell any court so - yah, until he gets subpoenaed; and then what happened? Well, MUM was the word.

Do I REALLY need to tell you anymore? Please think on this, and make the ONLY choice that makes sense. VOTE OBAMA / BIDEN.

Luis was telling me tonight about some uninformed people from his job, who were pro-Republican; but weren't going to vote. I told him that was good, because we A - didn't need uninformed people voting; and B - if you're not voting for Obama but you DON'T vote for McCain either - that's OK.

To quote Rachel (and maybe she's not he first to have said it; but it was the first time I heard it) PLEASE BaRock the vote.
