If you've been riding for a few months, then you may be interested to know that tonight was DJ Louie V's debut. Yes, tonight Luis DJ'd my company's very first reunion, and although I woulda been nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rockin chairs, (I must be channeling Dolly Parton) - Luis was cool as a cucumber.
Luis has been practicing for several weeks now, and I think that he got really comfortable with the equipment and I have to say that I was REALLY impressed with how confident he was; AND how great his mixes sounded.
I had planned to go to the reunion for few hours, just to support Luis but my boss enlisted my help, so I greeted people and helped them find their name badges. Once again I found myself in the midst of a sociological smorgasbord. Between the fashions, the shoes, and the demeanors; I was in my people watching glory.
Sadly, just as people were getting on the dance floor, it was time for me to get back home to my kids, so I can't tell you how successful the reunion / Luis, was or wasn't. BUT regardless, I am SO proud of Luis for pursuing one of his dreams. He's always wanted to be a DJ and tonight he got paid to do so. So if you ask me, Luis ROCKS!!
Now since I'm in total dance mode after spending a few hours at the reunion, I'm going to share a dance video that Luis forwarded to me. Check it out and ENJOY!!

(43-252) In The Nick Of Time
I am so thankful to all of my friends and family who racked their brains to help us find a DJ name for Luis. I never would have imagined that choosing a DJ name would have been as challenging as it was; but we need look no further, as Luis has chosen a name.
I told you about my dear friend Russell B when I wrote "Positivity;" and this morning I received a one line email from him that said "how about DJ Louie V (the V for Vallarta as in Puerto Vallarta." I kinda liked that, so I called Luis and suggested it to him; and he sorta liked it as well. I asked if I should tell my boss that he'd chosen a name; but he wasn't quite ready to commit. I recommended that he ask some people at work and see if they preferred The DJ Bandito (as my boss had been referring to him;) or DJ Louie V.
Around 245 I received an I.M. from my boss and he asked me to check our website, as he'd loaded Luis' music samples along with the other DJ's and he wanted to make sure that he'd gotten it right. I mentioned that Luis might have found a name and my boss said that he needed to make a final decision TODAY. Oh my God!!! I had no idea that we'd come down to the wire. Russell's suggestion had come in the nick of time. I assured my boss that Luis would email him with his name choice before 4pm; and when Luis walked in the door, I told him just that. To which he replied, "I'm DJ Louie V Baby!"
So there you have it. Russell is the winner of "Name The DJ!!!!" And we are beyond grateful to him and everyone else who gave this matter their consideration. Luis is now listed on our website as DJ Louie V, and as I think his samples sound just as good (if not better) than the more experienced DJ's that we work with; I'm confident that he'll be appearing soon at a reunion near you.

(43-250) Time For The 2000's
Well, it's been over a week and we still don't have a DJ name for Luis; and I can tell you that it's not for people's lack of trying. Last night, my friend Jenny asked me why I think it's been so difficult to come up with a DJ name for Luis and I told her the same thing that I told my cousin Jackie this morning, and my friend Mari tonight... It's because Luis is a nice guy, a mellow fellow, and a truly laid back gentleman. These personality traits aren't ones that you typically associate with a DJ; and therefore, it's taxing to come up with a name that reflects who he is. I'm not so sure that the name DJ Nice Guy or DJ Pal, would get people enthused about their reunion.
We're so grateful to all of our friends who have been contemplating DJ names for Luis. And it's not that any of the names have been bad per se; it's just that he hasn't find the right fit yet. In a lot of ways it's like naming a child. You just know the right name when you hear it. I think the biggest laugh that I've gotten so far, was when my cousin Jackie's husband Gene suggested the name Dejavu. Not DJ Dejavu, just Dejavu; and Jackie told him that it sounded like the name of a drag queen not a DJ.
Since Luis completed his 2000's mix on Wednesday night, all of his samples are now available for our clients to hear. The last time I looked, he was referring to Luis as The DJ Bandito, with the understanding that this could be changed if Luis decided on another name. So once again, I'm going to ask you to put your thinking caps on and think of a DJ name for Luis. It doesn't have to be DJ Something, it could be Mr. This or Master That or anything that you think a spin doctor might be named. In exchange for your consideration, I'm happy to share Luis' 2000's mix; and to quote the 70's Shake-n-Bake commercial, "And I helped!"

(43-242) Name The DJ...
When you love someone, it's common to take on their worries and their woes; and often times, you take on their projects and their causes as well. When I posted "I Know My ABBA," I told you that Luis had his dream job (becoming a DJ,) dropped right in his lap. I followed up by telling you about "Luis' DJ Debut," and then in "He's Got The Beat," I brought you up to speed on the outcome of Luis' audition. I explained that my boss had asked Luis (and the other DJ's) to make three, ten minute music samples; 80's,90's and 00's. The samples will then be posted on the reunion coordinator website, so that clients will be able to listen to the mixes and choose the DJ that suits them best.
Luis has been practicing nightly, and earlier this week, WE got started on his samples. Luis and I both love music, and this was a fun project for us to work on together; but it was very time consuming. We finished the 80's sample last night, and you may be surprised to hear that I'm not going to tell you what songs we chose. Instead, for your listening pleasure, I'm gonna take you back to the day's of legwarmers and Pac Man fever; and share our 80's music mix.
This morning we started downloading songs for Luis' 90's sample; and ya know, I'll be sharing that with you once it's been completed. The real task at hand, is something that we could use your help with. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it's time to play "Name The DJ..." Luis has the skills, and the tunes; but what he doesn't have is a DJ name. Last night he used his Facebook status as a platform to request suggestions; and although some of the responses have been absolutely hysterically, none of them are anything that he can use. So put your thinking caps on. We need to find Luis a GREAT, DJ name and we'd love to hear from you. Please send us your original suggestions by commenting right here or on Facebook.

(43-224) He's Got The Beat
Because I don't ever like to leave a story unfinished; tonight I want to tell you how things went at "Luis' DJ Debut." First, I have to say that I think Luis and I make a great team. Together, there is nothing that we can't do; and now we can add DJ-ing to the list.
Luis had asked me to help him with his play list; so I suggested some songs, and then he worked on how to mix them together. By the time we left for his 8pm audition; we were both feeling very confident about his finished product; although we knew that he wasn't quite at the professional DJ level.
When we arrived at the bar, a number of my co-workers were there; along with my bosses and a few women who had already booked reunions. They greeted Luis and told him that he was one of seven guys who were going to show their stuff; and they asked him what number he would like to be. Luis asked to go fifth; and shortly thereafter, the first DJ started his show.
I sat with my boss and two ladies who were going to have reunions in October; one for the class of 81' the other 2001; and we all agreed that DJ #1 was not a reunion circuit DJ. He played some hard core hip hop and at one point one of the ladies asked how you were supposed to dance to this, and I demonstrated the one arm sway. I explained that I thought they needed the other arm free to lift their pants up from time to time; and they got real kick out of that. I asked my boss if he'd brought his gong; and he thought that was really funny too. After a few endless minutes the two ladies and I told my boss that we thought we'd heard enough; and DJ #1 turned over the mic.
DJ #2 was GOOD! He totally looked the part; and he had some slammin mixes. If I was Luis I would have been thoroughly intimidated; but as always; Luis remained cool, calm and collected. #3 was another miss. He had skills, but his music selection was not appropriate and we found his mixes to be choppy. #4 had more of what the 81' reunion gal was lookin for. He had good mixes, and music that we all liked but the equipment was causing him some difficulty; though I'm not sure why.
In between DJ #3 and 4 My boss asked what Luis was going to be playing and when I told him; everyone at the table got very excited. I explained to the ladies that Luis was an aspiring DJ and that he'd only practiced on a computer program; BUT I thought that he had great potential. I told the ladies to feel free to criticize Luis in front of me; and I also offered to leave the table during his turn; but they just laughed and asked me to stay. They said that even if he didn't do as many mixes as the other guys; they liked the sound of his play list, A LOT. (Pat on the back for me.)
Luis took his turn, but despite the fact that he had practiced on a program of the same name, this one was entirely different. He played his songs, but had to forego mixes; and he was so intent on concentrating that he didn't say a word. Luis knew that he wasn't able to put on the same type of show as the other DJ's but I assured him that he's got the beat.
This afternoon my co-worker called, to let me know that Luis received a number of high ratings because people really liked his song selection. She said that my boss wants Luis to borrow the equipment and learn how to use it. He also needs to make three, ten minute mixes. One for the 80's, one for the 90's and one for the 00's (however you say that.) Luis has already started working on these, so I know that DJ-ing was all that he had expected it to be and now he's just going to have to practice, practice, practice.
I told you earlier that I don't like to leave a story unfinished; so what would this post be, if I didn't share Luis' play list? ENJOY!!
"Raise Your Glass" - Pink
"Club Can't Handle Me" - Flo Rida ft. David Guetta
"When I Get You Alone" - Robin Thicke (Although I think the "GLEE" version is MUCH better!)
"I Like It" - Enrique Iglesias Ft. Pitbull
"The Time" - Black Eyed Peas

(43-223) Luis' DJ Debut
When I posted "I KNOW My ABBA," I told you that Luis had his dream job of being a DJ, dropped right into his lap. I explained that my bosses had been purchasing DJ equipment, since they're offering DJ services for their growing, high school reunion coordinating business; and when I told them that Luis would be interested in working with them; they welcomed him to do so.
Now I myself don't know much about their reunion coordinating business, because it doesn't have anything to do with my job responsibilities; however, I do believe that they''ve been scheduling a number of events; because they put an ad on Craig's list for additional DJ's.
When I heard about the ad and saw people coming in for interviews; I asked my boss if they were still interested in having Luis DJ; and thankfully; they said, "absolutely." A few days later, Luis received a call from my boss. He said that he was having all of the prospective DJ's come down to his friend's restaurant / bar on Monday, March 7 to show their stuff; and he asked Luis to create a 10 to 15 minute set and come down to spin.
Luis had been preparing his show all weekend; and tonight's his big debut. I can't wait to see Luis in action; and I have every confidence that he's going to ROCK THE HOUSE.
